Hello! My name is Mr Derham, and I am extremely excited to be joining the amazing DBSJ community! The opportunity to join an impressive school so early on into its journey brings immense excitement to me as a teacher.
Initially completed a BA Geography degree at Loughborough University, I decided to follow my passion in working with children and complete my PDGE through the Teach First programme. From this, I have recently completed my MA in Educational Leadership at Bath Spa University which has allowed me to develop a strong teaching philosophy that places the child at the centre of their learning, encouraging them to be interested and ask questions about what they are learning. I promote a classroom of autonomy and independence, where pupils work together as a team to help each other grow and learn through talk and discussions.
Outside of the classroom, I love to stay active by playing cricket and golf. Cricket has always been my real passion, playing competitively across the UK as well as being fortunate enough to explore parts of the world through this sport. Competing in a team is a highly rewarding feeling and I love to bring the aspect of team spirit into my classroom when completing fun and engaging challenges together!
Travelling is also a real interest of mine, and I cannot wait to explore a new part of the world now that I have called Dubai my home. For me, Barbados and Italy have been real standout destinations so far, but I’m sure there will be plenty more amazing places to visit in the future!
