Welcome Message
At DBS Jumiera, we recognise the importance of inclusion and equity and embrace the diversity of our students and community. Providing our students with the opportunities to succeed in all aspects of school life is a key tenant of our philosophy and underpins our approach to teaching and learning.
Lead by John Paton, whole school head of inclusion, our highly skilled inclusion team works to ensure that the experiences of all students are enhanced with high quality provision, at a variety of levels. We believe that all our of learners should be supported in accessing learning with their peers and our teachers are supported to ensure they are able to provide the correct environment for all of students to thrive.
John Paton - Head of InclusionWe recognise that each child’s school journey is different and respond to the needs of our students both individually and collectively. This extends to all of our students, with a systematic approach to ensure that our students who experience Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (Students of Determination) receive support in fitting with their needs.
Our provision includes:
- Quality First Teaching, which benefits all students by delivering high-quality, differentiated instruction. This approach is supported by ongoing and timely assessments to inform any additional provision needed.
- Targeted and Small Group Support for students who have gaps in learning or need extended support to reach age-related milestones.
- Specialist Support outside of the school’s core provision, provided either by our dedicated inclusion team or external experts with the specialized knowledge to accelerate progress.
We utilise the information obtained from entry assessments and identification procedures to determine the type and level of support appropriate for each student, based on their development and needs. This allows us to develop personalised Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for all students of determination and ensure they are shared with all adults working with the child.
Through collaborating with parents, external specialists and using the best pedogeological approaches to teaching and learning, we ensure that students of determination are actively supported to participate in the learning process, develop theirpotential, and build relationships with their peers through social interactions in age-appropriate common learning environments.
